March 24 - April 14, 2012
Opening reception Saturday, March 24, 7pm - 10pm
The portrayal of catastrophe as it might be found in film, cinéma vérité, news footage, and homemade videos alike, is short-circuited in F* Mtn’s film _Severe Turbulence_. Using sparse sets, amateur acting, and low-fi techniques, the project satirizes the nature of fear as it is portrayed in the media. This film features a reenactment of the experience inside of a 737 jet that is encountering extreme turbulence using only an empty space, folding chairs, and many amateur actors. _Severe Turbulence_ is an absurd document of mid-flight catastrophe and all that it conjures up.
F* Mtn. formed in the back of a gay strip club in Portland, Oregon during the summer of 2010. This close-knit group of mother lovers loves their mothers very much. Their projects have ranged from designing labels for psychedelic chocolates, to recruiting young men to wrestle naked in an art museum, to creating a line of philosopher-inspired ice creams. Recently, their work was deemed a hate-crime by a dean at a major State University.
